Ryan Begay is our bonus guest with Real Native Roots: Untold Stories this month. Join us as he shares a bit about his grandparents and family, who come from a line of leaders, spiritual healers, artistic and skilled craftswomen/men. A twin, falling in the middle somewhere with six other siblings, Ryan grew up in a household of women. Later Ryan finds himself enrolling into a production class for film and finds his love for filmmaking, writing, directing, and acting. Ryan's mission is to levitate for more Diné/Native American presence in film and television both in front of and behind the camera. Join us with his favorite drink, gohwééh (coffee), just like how Elmo drinks his...black.

Monique is a first-generation high school and college graduate raised by her grandparents, who leads by love, compassion, and generosity. Monique shares how her life experiences led her to create the Indigenous Circle of Wellness, a private group practice offering mental wellness services grounded in holistic healing through a culturally inclusive approach. Sahar's school project opened doors to the environment and social justice issues and creatively found ways to lift Native voices through media. While doing this work and other avenues, she found herself challenged for her mixed heritage. Real Native Roots: Untold Stories would like to acknowledge nurses for their contributions to keeping our communities healthy and safe. Nurses are honored nationwide during the month of May. In honor of nurses, we would like to lift up Carol Dahozy from Fort Defiance, AZ. 
 
Carol’s grandmother and mother were nurses. Carol decided to become a nurse when she observed how a family member was treated in a hospital setting. Surviving the challenging demands of the nursing program, overcoming the language barrier, Carol spent 40 years in the field. Carol remains active in the healthcare arena and currently serves on the Board of Directors with the Native Health Urban Clinic in Phoenix, AZ.
